This weekend was just what the doctor ordered.
Driving in the rain/fog/night time for almost 3 hours after working. Going to Sozo l with Casey and Heather to get coffee and catch up on Open Mic night. We ended up sitting in the front of the store so we could hear each other better and all the freshman students gawked at us on the way by. It was culture shock being out there on a Friday night and seeing how things go. I had heard stories, but it was nothing like seeing it first hand. There were girls sitting on the second or third floor window sill half naked, lines of people at the ATM waiting to get cash out for the bar and married men standing on street corners stoned out of their mind.
We stopped and got munchies on the way home and went back and made pizza rolls and mozzerella sticks and finally crashed at almost 2 a.m. We were monitoring Hurricane Ike all night because Heather has family down on along Galvaston. The next morning we got up and Casey and Rebecca made us a huge breakfast and Heather and I went to fill my car up with gas before the prices went up (they ended up going $.20 a gallon on Saturday!).
That afternoon, Heather and I watched Made until 2 p.m. while waiting for Casey to get ready. We didn’t leave the apartment till 2 p.m. and then went shopping till almost 6 p.m.; and we only went to three stores. I was dead tired and ready to sit down/get a drink, something.
After wards, we picked up Casey’s room mate and went to Texas Road House. I hadn’t eaten all afternoon/evening, so I was really hungry. I think I was slightly nervous too and for some reason I ate way too fast. I ended up having to make myself throw up because I had a piece of steak lodged in my throat. It hurt so bad.
When that ordeal was finally over, I thought some vanilla soft serve would help and it did. We walked in and I ordered first.
Man behind the counter: “Do you want any toppings on that?”
Me: “How long have those mangos been there? …. I just got sick …”
Man behind the counter: “Oh we switch them out every once in a while. Did you get food poisoning?”
Me: “No … not food poisoning. I’ll take a few mangos.”
We laughed when I told the others what happened. That was one of numerous quoteable moments with the three of us. We laughed and then when it was time to leave we almost cried.
Church was amazing this morning. I ran into an old friend from my days at youth group in the Assembly of God Church. It’s interesting how our lives have been intertwined off and on over the years.
I think more trips to Morgantown are in my future. It wasn’t a bad ride at all and there is a lot more there than I realized. It was much different then I expected, but in a good way. All around a very rewarding and enjoyable trip.
