I have so much to do!

September 29, 2008 Jillian Leave a comment

Ugh.

Ideally, this is what I want to get done this week:

  1. Register for the GRE
  2. Work on Ad campaign for my church’s Christmas play.
  3. File 1 insurance claim and call my OB/GYN about re-filing my last appointment.
  4. Register to vote in Berkeley County.
  5. Get my passport photos done.
  6. Type up briefs for my freelance job.

I’m also trying to get extra hours in this week because I’m taking Wednesday off for my dad’s surgery. I’m also taking off early tomorrow and may even take off a couple hours on Thursday for travel time.

It’s all very frustrating. However! I started something new this morning. I got up earlier, did the intro to the Pilates DVD I got last week and went to Charles Town where I sifted through at least 25 circuit court complaint files. I made copies of three of the complaints ($16!) and I have to type those up by the end of the day Wednesday.

I guess this is better than sitting around though, right?

schedules, kayaks and iPhone

Things have been super busy lately. But that’s a good thing! Because I’m getting used to life after college finally and finding things to do to occupy my time.

Last week I took on the somewhat daunting task of heading up the publicity committee for my church’s Christmas production, Imagine Christmas. So far, I’ve been contacting radio stations and newspapers to get ad rates. I haveĀ  lot to do next week for it … our first team meeting is Oct. 7.

I’m in a small group doing a study called “One month to live,” which started at a church in Texas. I had never heard of the series until Covenant introduced it to us, but I’m loving it and it’s really coming at a good point in my life.

This week marks the anniversary of one of one of the most stressful, crazy weeks of my life. It was this time last year that I stole an abandoned kayak, almost got charged with stealing and then was threatened by a football player who was mad about a story we ran in the paper. We look back on it now and laugh and my how much has happened in a year.

Oddly enough, today, I finally went out and bought a new phone (that’s not what’s odd … bare with me). It’s actually an early Christmas present from my mom. I got an iPhone. Finally. This afternoon, a friend of mine (who is four years older than me) bought a house and another friend (who is only a few months older than me) went out and picked out an engagement ring with her boyfriend.

So incase that got buried in there; I finally got a new phone. I dropped my Samsung d807 for the last time on the day of graduation. I loved that phone. But in it’s place, I ordered a cheap-o phone to tide me over until my contract was up. I think I’ve complained about it every day since about a month after I got it. The reception, the way it slips out of my hands and the battery pops out, the keys, the slow nature and dialing the wrong number because it doesn’t move fast enough to keep up with me.

After much delibration and going back and forth between the Blackberry Curve and the iPhone, I figured I may as well bite the bullet and fully embrace the whole iPhone experience. Now I just have to wait for it to ship. Squee!

Current soundtrack

Have you ever found a song or songs that just perfectly match what you’re going though? Sometimes just the beat fits my current mood but the combination just works. I’ve been listening to the same songs over and over lately. I made a new play list “Autumn08.”

Did you know Autumn begins a week from today? It’s my favorite season and I’m excited : ) I need to make a list of things to do for Autumn 08 … I know for sure I want to go back to the pumpkin patch.

So we can re-create this! Gosh my hair was long last fall. I miss it. I like being able to pull it in a ponytail.

What’s on your play list?

Weekend re-cap

This weekend was just what the doctor ordered.

Driving in the rain/fog/night time for almost 3 hours after working. Going to Sozo l with Casey and Heather to get coffee and catch up on Open Mic night. We ended up sitting in the front of the store so we could hear each other better and all the freshman students gawked at us on the way by. It was culture shock being out there on a Friday night and seeing how things go. I had heard stories, but it was nothing like seeing it first hand. There were girls sitting on the second or third floor window sill half naked, lines of people at the ATM waiting to get cash out for the bar and married men standing on street corners stoned out of their mind.

We stopped and got munchies on the way home and went back and made pizza rolls and mozzerella sticks and finally crashed at almost 2 a.m. We were monitoring Hurricane Ike all night because Heather has family down on along Galvaston. The next morning we got up and Casey and Rebecca made us a huge breakfast and Heather and I went to fill my car up with gas before the prices went up (they ended up going $.20 a gallon on Saturday!).

That afternoon, Heather and I watched Made until 2 p.m. while waiting for Casey to get ready. We didn’t leave the apartment till 2 p.m. and then went shopping till almost 6 p.m.; and we only went to three stores. I was dead tired and ready to sit down/get a drink, something.

After wards, we picked up Casey’s room mate and went to Texas Road House. I hadn’t eaten all afternoon/evening, so I was really hungry. I think I was slightly nervous too and for some reason I ate way too fast. I ended up having to make myself throw up because I had a piece of steak lodged in my throat. It hurt so bad.

When that ordeal was finally over, I thought some vanilla soft serve would help and it did. We walked in and I ordered first.

Man behind the counter: “Do you want any toppings on that?”

Me: “How long have those mangos been there? …. I just got sick …”

Man behind the counter: “Oh we switch them out every once in a while. Did you get food poisoning?”

Me: “No … not food poisoning. I’ll take a few mangos.”

We laughed when I told the others what happened. That was one of numerous quoteable moments with the three of us. We laughed and then when it was time to leave we almost cried.

Church was amazing this morning. I ran into an old friend from my days at youth group in the Assembly of God Church. It’s interesting how our lives have been intertwined off and on over the years.

I think more trips to Morgantown are in my future. It wasn’t a bad ride at all and there is a lot more there than I realized. It was much different then I expected, but in a good way. All around a very rewarding and enjoyable trip.

Road trip!

I’m leaving after work to go see one my my most favorite people ever; my best friend, my sister and a girl who really gets me.

I’m ecstatic and so excited to go spend the weekend with her. We’re going to an open mic tonight and tomorrow we’re going shopping and out to dinner and Sunday we’re going to her church up there.

It’s going to be an all girl weekend with good clean fun and no pressure and no regrets except for being completely honest with one another.

The car is gassed up, the iPod is updated with new tunes to jam to and I’m ready for an approximately 140 mile drive to a new city with a nother sister to bond with on the way.

Gooood times!

Brittany, originally uploaded by jkesner732.
I did an interview with a student at a local community college last week; her name is Brittany Lynch and she is 21. She has her real estate license, serves as VP on the student government association at her school and is the student rep on the board of governors. Her mom is a single parent and Brittany is planning to pursue a degree in physical therapy.

Brittany was so down to earth and very easy to talk to. I was my own photographer for this assignment and as I was looking around the room where I interviewed her, I saw this stair case and I asked if she would go up on the landing. I think she got the idea I was going for immediately and this is one of the most candid, set up shots I’ve ever gotten when shooting for the paper.
